This 2.3 acre park is the location of the old city shop property and was developed in 2002 and 2003. Hickory was designed with input from a citizens committee comprised mainly of residents from the neighborhood and is a very popular addition to the community and our parks system.
In December of 2011, after a one year dog friendly pilot project in Hickory Park, Ordinance number 1260 was amended to permanently allow leashed dogs (a maximum of 3 dogs per handler) in Hickory Park, excluding: the children's playground area, the basketball court, and the skate feature. Prosecution of dog owners of dogs running at large is in accordance with Idaho Code section 25-2805, punishable by section 18-113A of Idaho code ($100 fine)
The amendment states that owners must remove excrement deposited by their dogs and place it in a sanitary container. The dog handler must also have a plastic bag or other equipment ON THEIR PERSON to remove his/her animals fecal matter when accompanied by their dog on public property or public easement. Failure to pack a bag or to clean up after ones dog is an infraction also subject to fines as provided in Idaho code 18-113A. ($100 fine)
