Apply for a Planning or Building Permit

Welcome to the Planning & Building Applications Page

All permit applications must be submitted through the City's permit tracking website, BS&A.

  • For design professionals and contractors, please click here to create an account or sign in to the City of Sandpoint's Permit application platform.
  • For homeowners applying for a building or planning & zoning permit, please click here (no account needed).

PDF application forms required to be uploaded for each permit type are found on this page. To apply, please find the appropriate PDF application form below, complete it, and have it ready to upload to BS&A at the time you go to apply online. Applicants are encouraged to submit additional documents in PDF format. All files should be clearly labeled with descriptive names indicating their contents to help facilitate an efficient review process.

Permit types & Fees

  • For an overview of the types of building & engineering permits you can apply for, please review the City's Building & Engineering Permit Types.
  • To understand what fees will apply for various applications listed below, please review the City's Currently Adopted Fees. If you have any questions, please feel free call us at (208) 263-3370 or contact us by email.

Preapplication meetings:

A preapplication meeting can be scheduled within the BS&A online platform above. For planning & zoning applications for new subdivisions resulting in more than four lots, planned unit developments, zone changes, condominium plats, and for conditional use permits, a preapplication meeting with City staff is required. For minor land divisions such as short plat (resulting in 4 or fewer lots) or lot line adjustments, a preapplication meeting with city staff is strongly recommended.

A preapplication meeting for any of the above new developments in Sandpoint may be requested by a property's owner or by a potential future owner with the property owner's consent. Non-owners requesting a preapplication meeting must submit an owner authorization form with their preapplication meeting request form.
