City Elections

In Idaho, general elections for cities are held in odd-numbered years. There are no particular districts or seats for Sandpoint City Council; it is an "at large" election, where those with the most votes from across all of Sandpoint's precincts are elected. Those elected serve a term of four (4) years.

The most recent City of Sandpoint general election was held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, for the City Council seats held by Joel Aispuro, Justin Dick, and Rick Howarth. (No mayoral election in 2025; will be held in 2027.) The following candidates ran for the three available seats, with the results indicated next to the names of those who were elected.

  • Joshua Torrez - elected
  • Joel Aispuro - elected (incumbent)
  • Rick Howarth
  • Joe Tate - elected

The wastewater treatment plant bond question was also be on the ballot, with voters approving this measure. Visit the project website for more information: https://www.sandpoint-wwtp.org.

Although candidates for city office declare their candidacy with the City Clerk, in Idaho, all elections, including city elections, are otherwise administered by the County Clerks. Please visit the Bonner County Elections site for information on voting and registering to vote in Sandpoint.
