The City of Sandpoint's existing wastewater collection system consists of approximately 50 miles of gravity sewers, 19 sewer lift stations, and force mains that convey sewage to the City's wastewater treatment plan (WWTP). The treatment plant is located adjacent to the Pend Oreille River, near War Memorial Field, on the south end of town. The collection system was originally constructed in the early 1900's in the southeast part of Sandpoint. It has expanded to now serve a population of over 9,000 people.
