Similar to Phase 1 (completed in 2023 from ~ Hwy 2 & Superior St), this second phase of the Division Avenue Corridor Improvement project will improve Division Avenue’s function as a multimodal corridor by better providing pedestrian and bicycle access to schools, community destinations, and neighborhoods.
Safety improvements recommended in the Road Safety Audit (RSA) and identified in the 2021 Multimodal Transportation Master Plan (MTMP) will include:

a traffic calming measure of narrowing the north and southbound travel lanes on Division Avenue.

Removing the center turn lane before Pine Street
-
revitalization of the east side of Division Avenue. A wider frontage will be reconstructed, including new sidewalk, planter strip, curb & gutter, and driveway approaches.
This summer, Phase 2 construct improvements along the east side of Division Ave, from Superior St to Pine St will include:

New 6-ft wide sidewalk to improve pedestrian access to schools, community destinations, and neighborhoods.
- The new planter strip to provide greenspace in alignment with Sandpoint’s Urban Forestry Master Plan and provide snow storage.
- Traffic calming measures to reduce vehicular speed and improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Construction is anticipated to begin on Monday, June 8 and be completed by August 2026.
What to expect during construction:
Working hours for the project will be from 7am to 7pm, Monday through Friday. Expect construction-related noise and equipment during these hours.
Please exercise extra caution when traveling near construction zones. Your cooperation in obeying posted signs and flaggers ensures the safety of our work crews and the community.
The Division Ave will remain open to motorists. Traffic lanes will be shifting to the west side of the roadway.
The following roadways, sidewalk and bike lanes will be closed for the duration of construction. Motorists, bicyclists, pedestrians will be detoured. See map.

Local access to driveways will be maintained. Driveways within the project limits along Division Ave will be closed for a short durations during demolition, temporary gravel driveway installation, and paving operations.
Materials and equipment will be staged within the project limits and may affect the availability of on-street parking.
Work will include trenching/excavation, pipe work, backfilling/compaction, sidewalk/driveway/ planter strip/curb & gutter construction, asphalt patching, and pavement marking. Vegetation and tree planting takes place this fall.
