The Sandpoint Police Department is comprised of several divisions, each responsible for a critical role within the department.
Administrative
The Administrative Division coordinates the activities of all divisions within the department. It is comprised of the Chief, Captain & Lieutenant. It also includes office staff who are essential to the day-to-day operations of the department.
Investigations
The primary responsibility of the Investigation Division is to assist in the investigation of cases that involve a great amount of detail. Detectives assigned to this division supplement the efforts of patrol by ensuring that follow-up of criminal offenses are conducted.
Patrol
The functions of the Patrol Division are to enforce state laws and city ordinances. This includes enforcing traffic laws, investigating criminal activity, traffic accidents, drug-related crimes, responding to calls for service, and crime prevention by patrolling residential and business areas.
School Resource Officer
The School Resource Officer (SRO) is a specially trained police officer who serves as a positive role model for students and provides assistance to school administration for the Lake Pend Oreille School District.
Community Resource Officers
Community Resource Officers conduct a full range of code enforcement activities, including proactive patrols and inspections within the City of Sandpoint to identify city code and ordinance violations related to parking, animal control, licensing, signage, noxious weeds, abandoned vehicles, right-of-way concerns, and other public nuisances.
