The City of Sandpoint invites artists to apply for the City Beach Basketball Court Public Art Project for the design and painting of a site-specific artistic treatment within designated areas of the City Beach basketball court.

The project is open to all artists residing in the United States regardless of race, color, religion, gender, including minors, with parental or guardian written consent required for participants under 18 years of age. Local and Regional artists may be given selection preference. Selection panelists and their immediate family members are not eligible for participation.

Project Scope

The intent of the project is to introduce a visually compelling artistic element to the court while preserving the function, visibility, and playability of the basketball surface. Proposed artwork should be suitable for an active outdoor recreational setting, compatible with the surrounding park and beach environment, and appropriate for public viewing by all ages.

The selected artist will create an original design for application within the center circle and the two half-circle areas at the top of the keys on the existing basketball court. These are the currently yellow-painted areas shown in the project image provided by the City. The total project area is approximately 262 square feet.

All designs must work within the exact boundaries of the designated painted court areas and must not interfere with required basketball court lines, visibility, traction, safety, or use of the court for recreation. The City reserves the right to require reasonable modifications to a proposed design to address safety, durability, maintenance, or operational concerns.

The selected artist will receive a $2,500 stipend upon completion of the project in accordance with the agreement terms established by the City. The stipend shall constitute full compensation for design, materials, labor, travel, and installation unless otherwise provided in writing.

 

Submission Deadline: Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. PST.

Submissions can be emailed to cityclerk [at] sandpointidaho.gov (cityclerk[at]sandpointidaho[dot]gov) OR delivered to City Hall, 1123 Lake Street, Sandpoint, ID 83864. Submissions that are delivered must include one hard copy and a flash drive.

All questions must be submitted by 2:00:00 PM Pacific Time on Thursday, May 28, 2026, to provide/post a timely response for the benefit of all potential responders.
