The Sandpoint Urban Renewal Agency (SURA) is an independent public redevelopment agency serving the city of Sandpoint, Idaho.  SURA facilitates the ongoing redevelopment of Sandpoint and its districts (Downtown and Northern), ensuring high quality physical environments and a versatile, modern infrastructure, while supporting social well-being and long-term economic vitality.

The SURA Board selects projects to fund based on their ability to create a “public benefit” for the community. A key redevelopment tenet: private investment follows public investment. For complete details, click for our Project Evaluation Criteria.

At the time the Sandpoint Urban Renewal Agency was established by City Council, the Agency was charged with the oversight of two districts:  Downtown and Northern.

The Downtown District basically encompasses the bulk of the downtown area of Sandpoint, roughly bounded by Pine, Sandcreek, Cedar, and the former Railroad Easement.  Initially the primary focus of the downtown district is the reconstruction of public improvements including the roads, sidewalks, parking areas and such.

The Northern District surrounds the Sandpoint Airport encompassing mostly industrially zoned property along Baldy Mountain, Great Northern and Boyer Avenue.  The initial focus of this district was the reconstruction of Great Northern Road and extension of city utility services.  Today, the district is focusing on the redevelopment of the former LP mill site at Boyer and Larch, reconstruction of Baldy Mountain Road, extension of 3 Phase power to more properties in the area and a variety of additional opportunities.
